Book Review | The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living

By Meik Wiking

The thesis of this book is really in the title and I honestly don't know if I can review it much better than has been reviewed. But it was so good it warrants a review in my opinion.

This book made me feel so good. I am an introvert and do not to need to fill my cup by being surrounded be people or doing social things. I am way more likely to sneak off and hide in the other room to catch my breath before being surrounded by noise. Specifically, this book mentions: "Hygge - Socializing for Introverts." Meik Wiking mentions a student from one of his discussions that says "hygge is such a wonderful thing," because in the US the normal is to "take part in social actives with a lot of people [and] a lot of fast networking." Hygge can allow introverts to be social without draining them.

I love that there is a concept and a community of people who are content in just enjoying where they are and finding contenmtent there. In a world where screens are the thing and going a million miles an hour is the "right" thing to do - finding a little cozy and appreciating the moment is so zen.

I had this concept pop up while I was searching the internet for cozy images. I am in need of a little rain, a little fire in the fireplace, and a cozy blanket with a good book. I am ready for summer to end and autumn to make the world go inside and be still for a minute. I picked this book up at a local bookstore and I could not put it down. It resonated so much inside of me that I began to think about how I could make our home feel Hygge all year long.

I will keep this short, the books speaks for itself. If you are looking for ways to find cozy elements within your home and to realize that slowing down and enjoying the moment isn't just a good thing to do, it is in fact good for you and your happiness - please buy this book. It is worth having, it is worth sharing with your friends and Hygge is absolutely worth practicing.
